Literacy Digital Breakout

For the final part of our novel study I created a digital breakout for the learning of the story that we had been doing. A breakout is like an escape room but online. The clues to each of the locks is hidden in aspects of the text so the learners have to inference, read, analyse, problem solve and think critically about what they are reading, seeing or hearing.  This is a fun way to encourage the learners to think about the learning they have done from this book. Also, this task touches on the soft skills of our graduate profile and our learning qualities. A truly integrated activity.

Here is the useable link if you would like to try the breakout or give it to your learners. You do not have to have read the book to solve the clues, but it would help.

This is not something that you need to be a tech wizard to do. It uses basic google tools like site, forms, adding youtube clips. It can be as complicated or simple as you like. The hardest part is thinking up the clues. This is the first one I have done and it took me a hour or so to learn. Also on the Breakout EDU site there are instructions on how to make them. If you have any ideas I would be happy to help someone make one. Just ask.
